For the cake:
1 C. flour
1 C. milk
1/2 C. (?!?!?) sugar
2 eggs
Lemon icing
Jelly bellies.
Put in oven at 350 degrees. Check after one medium length picture book. Check again after lunch. Ice liberally. Decorate with jelly belly landscape (one flower, one pond, two very small apple trees, sky with clouds, and sun). Serve to one dubious father, who will probably ask for seconds.
It's a little dense, but better than you might imagine. I would not, however, recommend you try it yourselves. It's best when served by a six year old.

Frosting. It is frosting, not icing. I received a lecture on the difference.
this is SO cute.
and it made me wonder … have you read cyrano de bergerac recently? the "pâtissier des poètes", a character named ragueneau, has poetic aspirations and therefore gives free pastries to the poets on the fringes of 17th century courtly society. and the poems ragueneau writes are all recipes for fabulous pastries, but composed in verse. :) a treat on all levels.
to christie: i do believe an exposition on the differences between frosting and icing would make excellent blog fodder.
to romy: i lovelovelovelove cyrano, but i haven't read it in years. i'm positive that my love of cyrano stemmed in part from my love of pastries, or vice versa.
and yes, you may use "blog fodder" in a poem, if you wish.
