Lucky#7

Wrigley is not a fan of parties. The apple didn't fall from the tree on this one. The birthday parties for W have been getting smaller and smaller until this year - no party. We took the neighbor kids to lunch at Wrig's favorite chain food restaurant, then hit the road for an apple orchard.

It was a beautiful day (the endless gray soggy days don't hit until late Halloween afternoon), and the kids picked liked mad for all of about 10 minutes and the bags were full. These were huge Jonagold apples. We brought home about 75 pounds and seriously we picked for less than 20 minutes. Afterward we hit the picnic area for cake and presents and some frolicking, before heading home.

It was all low key, but I don't think we could have had a better first day of being 7.

Knock knock? Hello?

Hello. We're still here. Happy Fall to you. We went "camping" in a cabin over the weekend. It feels so great to get out into the woods, yet have a warm, dry place to end the day. It was a beautiful weekend with gorgeous fall light and crisp mornings. One friend asked as we packed up last Friday how it is that I manage to plan these weekends the months in advance that it requires to get a reservation. At the time I didn't know, and I barely felt like going. At the beginning of the week we all felt like we might be coming down with a cold, and I wondered if we should cancel and oh, figuring what we're going to eat and packing it all up... why bother? We could just stay home and do yard work. Now I remember. Each time we head out, I make a point of making a reservation for the next trip soon after we get home.

Let's see. I bet everywhere is all booked up for Thanksgiving; do you think we can get in over Christmas Break? The coast? East of the Cascades? Excuse me while I head off to find an open cabin.
