Day 2

Today is Wrigley's birthday. Ed has Parent conferences tonight, so Wrig will get to see Ed only between 3:30 and 4:30. We'll go to an early dinner with him. I have a midterm tonight, so I'll drop Grammers and Wrigley off after dinner. We don't think she realizes how crummy it is that we can't spend the day with her.

We started the day with a celebration breakfast at Mother's Bistro, and Wrigley enjoyed some whipped cream and chocolate chips with a little pancake.

4 days of birhday

A few days ago, as Ed and I tried to prepare her for a very busy birthday week, Wrigley realized that she was about to have 4 days of birthday celebrations. How fortunate, since she is turning 4.

On Tuesday, we had Wrigley's celebration dinner (neither Ed nor I are going to home in the evening of her real birthday, today!). We had a couple of her favorites, orzo with parmesean and snow peas. Afterwards, we opened presents.

Wrigley Friday

Boy, I am glad it is Friday and not Wednesday still. It has been a very busy week!

Easily bought

My eye doctor sent me a $5 coffee card. I was planning on going back to him next year because 1. I didn't spend hours in his waiting room like I did last year's doctor, and 2. he's something of a hottie and wears suspenders. The $5 coffee card seals the deal.

We went to a new (who kows how long ago-new to us) Italian restaurant last night, Sub Rosa. It was remarkably bland. Wrigley liked her Marinara, but it was... bland. Ed and I shared the SubRosa, also...bland. We were happy to scratch the restaurant off our list until the server brought some yummy, melt in your mouth chocolate tuffles. We have since decided to try the pizza next time we go (hey, give us a little credit, it is hard to write off any restaurant that Wrigley likes).

My name is Wrigley. I am almost four. I like to go down the big bumpy slide at Sewallcrest. I like the swings and merry-go-round and the big bumpy slide. Sometimes when I go to Sewallcrest park, I have to go potty. Then we have to leave. I don't like it. Put a bathroom at Sewallcrest park, please.

Dear Wrigley. Thank you for your note.

You are absolutely right - you should not have to leave a park to find a restroom. Unfortunately, maintaining restrooms or even putting potable facilities in all our parks is not possible. They are expensive due in part to misuse. I will personally walk the park area in the next day or so and discuss the issue with the technicians who maintain your park.

Look Out Picasso

Many children begin drawing representational drawings around 3 or so. Wrigley loves art, but has little interest in drawing (not messy enough), so we haven't seen any representational drawings. When children do start drawing instead of scribbling, the standard progression is to over time start with a head, then begin to add limbs and then a body. This is an example from Wikipedia.


Here is Wrigley's very first representational drawing.

It's a snow car. The circles are the doors, the orange circles the wheels and the orange lines around the wheels are tracks, of course.
