if i kept a diary,
i’d invent
a new lie
every day.
i’d write
about snowflakes
when i meant
to describe
cherry blossoms,
or cherry blossoms
when i’d really
seen the wings
of moths take flight,
your heart in tow.
i’d write
about the scratch
of metal on metal
instead of the
hummingbird’s buzz,
or i’d talk about
a hummingbird
when i meant
to talk about love.
if i kept a diary,
i’d invent
a new lie
every day,
because not
even a diary
wants to hear
the true story
of a spring morning
trying to pretend
it’s summer.

not a comment on poetry, but ...
it was 90 degrees in l.a. today.
very summery for april, even for southern california.
let me know if your (imaginary) diary gets back to you ...
;)
i'm really enjoying getting a poem every morning. i really think you should do this for the rest of the year.
i'm shocked at how difficult it is to come up with a poem a day. i'm glad you're enjoying them. i wonder if it's getting tedious for our dear readers.
and 90 degrees in april? ugh.
i am finding inspiration in mythology, the bible, and untold stories all around my in this city and the others. still, a poem a day is tough going indeed.
have you read marie howe? her newest book, _the kingdom of ordinary time_, just came out - it's not quite as strong as _the good thief_ (imho), her first, from about 12 years ago, but is a beautiful collection of poetry.
and yes, 90° in april is hard on all kinds of systems.
hmmm, mythology, the bible ... most of my personal reading time is dedicated to the prose of sophomores, which tends to be a little too - wait for it ... - sophomoric to be inspirational. c'est la vie. (that's french. i can translate it if you'd like.)
