The Big Leap

Wrigley has discovered jumping. Who knew it was so hard to pull feet up off the floor and trust that you will land safely. It has been interesting to see the evolution of full fledged two footed jumping. First, there is sort of this bounce by the knees, but the feet never leave the floor. It is important at this stage to say, "JUMP." Next, is sort of a shuffle where one foot ends up in front of the other. Next, one foot jumps up and the other follows. After that, there is two footed jumping, but it is hard to say that both foot entirely leave the floor. After a while you can jump along just fine on the floor, but then the whole process starts over again when you want to jump off of things. It seems to me that this method doesn't actually serve the learning process quite as well, because the jumping off of something with only one foot committed looks pretty dangerous. You end up all off balance. Thankfully Wrigley doesn't notice these spills.

This afternoon Wrigley finally perfected two footed jumping off of things. She must have jump off the couch to the floor 95 times saying each and every time, "Look, Mommy, look." After the 94th banging of her knees on the floor, I suggested that she might want to move a big fluffy pillow in front of the couch and jump on that. Not two jumps later Wrigley discovered jumping and landing on her bottom. Another 95 "look, Mommy, looks."
